012: Talk Paper Quizzers - The History of Type, Font Files and Letterforms

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

We’re mixing it up today and it’s our first-ever Talk Paper Quizzers episode where contestants answer trivia questions to compete for the completely fictional, completely worthless, yet highly-coveted “Apostrophe” (see what I did there?!).

This game show format is loosely based on NPR podcast, Ask Me Another.

Today we have two contestants who will be facing off in three rounds: the first round will focus on the history of typography, the second round will focus on the technical aspects of font files and the third round will focus on the technical aspects of letterforms and typography. Each topic round will feature 3 games:

  1. The first game is called “Category Is…”. I will list a bunch of things that are all related in some way. When the contestants think they know the connection, they will yell it out. If they guess correctly, they’re one point closer to the Apostrophe. Even if they guess incorrectly, they can continue to guess until someone answers correctly.

  2. The second game is called “Two Lies and One Truth”. (It’s a twist on two truths and a lie.) I will challenge the contestants to figure out which of the statements is the truth amongst the three options. They may yell out the answer at any time and they will receive one point for each correct answer, HOWEVER they only have one guess.

  3. The third game is called “30 Seconds to Greatness”. This is a speed round (the pressure’s on!). I will ask each contestant 5 questions. If they don’t know the answer, they can say pass. They will receive one point for each correct answer.

Whoever ends up with the most points at the end wins … the Apostrophe! If there is ever a tie, a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors will be played to break the tie.
